ReviewsEdit

Writer Paul Dini wrote in 2008, the following statement in regards of the score for the episode:

"The wholesomeness of Christmas and the perversity of the Joker are two things that should never be allowed near each other. Yet, the prospect of the Clown Prince of Crime hosting his own 'family' holiday special was too good to pass up. Strains of 70's-inspired variety show music sound so authentic one might think Shirley brought in Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass to guest star on a track. A special treat is the use of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" to underscore one of the Joker's more deadly toy attacks. And no holiday epic would be completed without a version of "Deck the Halls", this one given a specially twisted ending as it emanates from the Joker's madhouse cell."

Soundtrack editor, Daniel Schweiger stated the following:

"No Christmas music is left unscathed as Walker once again wreacks merry havoc with the Joker, beginning with a spin on "Jingle Bells" as he escapes Arkham Asylum whilst singing every school kid's nasty ditty about Batman and Robin. With sleigh bells and their bigger cousins abounding, Walker then switches to a Tijuana brass sound for her theme to "Christmas With the Joker". But all isn't fun and games, as Walker keeps breathless with an out-of-control train. But the episode's showstopper is McCuistion's subversion of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" by speeding up it's tempo with dangerous, dark brass. Finally, his boisterous version of "Deck the Halls" rings out the episode's score- of course with a dissonant ending to reflect the Joker's foiled Xmas. "The music may be fun, but you know there's something kind of wrong about it." Bruce Timm remars. "And that was perfect for the episode".
